Many of you may not be aware that Kansas has three AFP chapters: Kansas City, Topeka and ours. In the last several years, our chapter has made intentional efforts to expand our reach beyond the Wichita metro area, adding board members and National Philanthropy Day award winners from across the state. We are now privileged to serve colleagues across about three quarters of the state of Kansas; including Salina, Emporia, Hays, Liberal, Winfield – and beyond. We have adapted our monthly educational sessions to be more accessible and convenient for fundraising professionals who are several hours away.
Through these efforts and others we have become more than the Greater Wichita Chapter of AFP. At National Philanthropy Day 2023, we revealed a special announcement, in recognition and celebration of all of those we serve, we are in the final stages of adopting a new name, The Kansas Heartland Chapter.
We are committed to supporting development professionals throughout the state. Whether you are a seasoned development director, fundraising consultant, grant writer, volunteer fundraiser, foundation executive or a new development associate, our chapter is dedicated to supporting our members and providing quality educational and networking opportunities for you. Our mission is to “foster effective and ethical professionals to inspire the spirit of philanthropy.” With close to 100 members, the chapter is part of a network of 270 chapters worldwide within the international Association of Fundraising Professionals organization.
The chapter leadership offers monthly educational and professional development programs for fundraisers. The chapter also sponsors the annual National Philanthropy Day in Wichita, which honors individuals and organizations whose volunteer leadership and giving have enhanced the quality of life throughout the state.
The chapter has earned the Ten Star Chapter designation since 2011. This designation, bestowed by AFP International, acknowledges the exemplary work of high performing chapters across the world.
